Suspicious death in north Sarasota under investigation

Body of adult male found on Nov. 21 in 800 block of Mecca Drive

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating what it called “the suspicious death of an adult male” that occurred on Monday, Nov. 21, in the 800 block of Mecca Drive within the City of Sarasota, the department has announced.

“Detectives believe that all involved parties involved are accounted for and there is no danger to the public,” a news release said. “[T]his appears to be an isolated incident,” the release added.

The 800 block of Mecca Drive is just north of the Days Inn by Wyndham Sarasota Bay and immediately south of the Goodwill store standing at 5100 Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. The location also is just east of U.S. 41 and southeast of the Ringling Museum of Art. A Quality Inn, the Siesta Inn and the Flamingo Inn are in the same general area, a map shows.

Because of the state’s Marsy’s Law, which allows victims’ identities to be shielded, “all information regarding the individuals involved is being withheld,” the release pointed out.
