Jan. 16 is the last day
Tuesday, Jan. 16, is the last day to register to be eligible to vote in the State House District 72 Special Election, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13, Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is reminding citizens who reside within that district.
Turner recommends that voters confirm before the Jan. 16 deadline that they are registered to vote and that their voter registration information is current, a news release says.
New voter registration applications must be completed, signed and returned in person or postmarked by the Jan. 16 deadline, the release stresses. An application also may be submitted online at www.registertovoteFlorida.gov or through any driver license or tax collector’s office that issues Florida driver licenses or Florida ID cards, the release points out.
Voters who have moved or changed names, or those who need to update their signatures since the last election, also may complete a voter registration application to update their records, the release adds.
Signature updates must be received by the elections office prior to the start of the canvass of vote-by-mail ballots, which will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 8:30 a.m., the release notes. “Address and name changes may be made any time prior to voting,” the release says.
Applications are available at all three elections offices — in Sarasota, Venice and North Port — and at public libraries, military recruitment offices and public assistance offices, the release adds. They also may be downloaded at www.SarasotaVotes.com.
For more information or assistance, voters may call the Supervisor of Elections Office at 861-8619 or visit the website.
