The Sarasota Police Department is conducting an investigation into the apparent drowning of an adult woman on Saturday, April 23, the department has announced.

“Sarasota Police detectives do not believe foul play was involved,” a news release says.

Just after 8:30 p.m. on April 23, the release adds, Sarasota Police officers responded to a call about a missing woman in the 1300 block of Vista Drive in  Sarasota. A Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and Sarasota County Emergency Services marine unit assisted in the search, which located the woman in Sarasota Bay, the release says.

“The woman was pronounced dead while in the care of Sarasota County Emergency Services,” the release notes.

The investigation is ongoing, the release points out.

When The Sarasota News Leader checked in with Genevieve Judge, the Police Department’s public information officer, late in the morning of April 27, she responded that she had no further news at that time. Because the investigation is continuing, she added, she also was not able to provide the News Leader a copy of the formal report on the drowning.

Vista Drive, which intersects with Hillview Drive, is west of South Orange Avenue in Sarasota. The neighborhood is located on Sarasota Bay. Homes in the 1300 block have a market value ranging from approximately $3 million on up to about $12 million, Sarasota County Property Appraiser Bill Furst’s records show.
