March 8 celebration of International Women’s Day to be held at Michael Biehl Park in Venice

In honor of International Women’s Day, Venice Indivisible Resistance and the Venice Area Democratic Club “are joining forces to host a public rally and celebration of women’s strength and progress” on Sunday, March 8, at Michael Biehl Park, the organizations have announced.

The park stands at 100 W. Tampa Ave. in Venice.

“Under the banner of ‘Celebrating Women’s Strength,’ ” a news release explains, “the protest and gathering aim to highlight the ongoing struggle for equality while honoring the women who are actively shaping the future.” The release adds that leaders of the organizers are calling on members of the community “to stand together in support of women’s voices, the protection of voting rights, and the fundamental principle of believing women.”

The International Women’s Day Celebration and Rally will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on March 8, the release notes.

“This event serves as a local platform for residents to demonstrate their commitment to gender justice and to recognize the pivotal role women play in the civic and social fabric of the Venice community,” the release also points out.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the event and to bring signs with them, the release says.
