The 44th Annual Sandy Claws Beach Run will be a virtual event, Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) staff has announced.

“Choose your distance and run at any location you wish or visit one of … six parks in search of a Sandy the Crab photo op!” a news release invites members of the public.

The six parks are Nokomis Beach, Phillippi Estate Park, Rothenbach Park, Shamrock Park, Siesta Beach and Ted Sperling Park at South Lido Beach, the release notes.

A person who registers by Nov. 20 will receive a long-sleeve performance event shirt, a face mask and other “Sandy swag,” the release adds, pointing out that “no-shows forfeit these items.”

Anyone who registers after Nov. 20 will receive an event shirt and a face mask, while supplies last, the release says.

(Proceeds will benefit Sarasota County’s Summer Camp Scholarship Fund, the release points out.)

Further, each registered participant automatically will be entered into a raffle drawing, the release adds.

“To participate in our Facebook raffle drawings, direct message us on Facebook @SRQCountyPlay. We will be accepting photos for best holiday-themed costume and for best photo with a Sandy the Crab photo frame,” the release notes.

The Manasota Track Club sanctions the Sandy Claws Beach Run, the release says.

Early drive-through packet pick-up service will be offered on Thursday, Dec. 10, from 3 to 6 p.m. at New Balance Sarasota, which is located at 1872 Stickney Point Road, just east of Siesta Key, the release notes.

Drive-through packet pick-up service also will be available on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Siesta Public Beach, which is located at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key.
