Award-winning author Ann Patchett will be the featured speaker at the 13th annual Love Our Libraries author luncheon, to be held on Feb. 7, 2025, at The Ora in Sarasota, the Library Foundation for Sarasota County has announced.

“The Love Our Libraries Author Luncheon is the nonprofit Library Foundation’s signature fundraiser,” a news release explains. “To date, the annual sellout event” has raised more than $2 million to support Sarasota County public libraries, the release adds.

Since its founding in 2011, the release notes, “the Library Foundation has secured more than $8.5 million dollars in private funds to help ensure a bright future for Sarasota’s libraries.”

Patchett not only is a celebrated author, but also a devoted reader “and a champion of literary culture,” the release continues. “She has written 13 books and has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including a National Humanities Medal, England’s Orange Prize, the PEN/Faulkner Award, and a Guggenheim Fellowship,” the release points out. Her novel The Dutch House “was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize,” it adds. “Her books have been both New York Times Notable Books and New York Times bestsellers,” the release continues. Her work has been translated into more than 30 languages.

“We’re delighted to bring Ann Patchett to Sarasota for an inspiring afternoon dedicated to celebrating our public libraries,” said Alisa Mitchell, executive director of the Foundation, in the release.

“This event is made possible by Presenting Sponsor Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Author Reception Sponsor Bookstore1 Sarasota, and by the generosity of numerous community partners,” the release notes.
