The pistol and rifle range at Knight Trail Park in Nokomis was fully reopened to the public on Nov. 2, following the installation of baffles, Sarasota County has announced.

The 50-yard, 25-yard and 12-yard portions of the range are available once again, thanks to the completion of Phase 2 of renovations at the facility, a news release says.

The 100-yard range reopened last month, the release notes.

Sarasota County staff, with assistance from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office trustees and work offender programs, installed baffles to provide a safer environment for the area beyond the berm at the pistol and rifle range, the release explains. That area will be used by the adjacent Sarasota Trap, Skeet & Clays facility for a new sporting clay course. The organization has been partnering with the county “to accommodate this growing sport and to have the ability to host regional, state and national tournaments,” the release adds.

Knight Trail Park, located at 3445 Rustic Road in Nokomis, offers archery, hiking and camping in addition to numerous shooting sport ranges and courses, the release notes.

The pistol and rifle range’s regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
