The 44th annual Amateur Sand Sculpture Contest will be held on Siesta Key Public Beach on Saturday, May 7, hosted by the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department, the county has announced.

“This free, family-friendly event is open to all ages and all amateur skill levels,” a county news release says. Cash prizes, which are sponsored by the Friends of Sarasota County Parks and the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce, will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place finishers in the adult (individual), adult (team), children (10 years old and younger) and youth (11-17 years old) categories and one overall people’s choice winner, the release adds.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on May 7 on Siesta Public Beach near the yellow lifeguard stand, where each participant will be assigned a 10-foot-by-10-foot square, the release explains. Judging will begin at 1 p.m., and the awards will be presented at 2 p.m., the release adds.

Spectators are invited to vote for the People’s Choice Award winner.

Siesta Public Beach is located at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key. No rain date is scheduled for this event, the release notes.
