As part of Sarasota County’s ongoing One Book, One Community celebration, the Asolo Repertory Theatre Guild Play Readers will perform theatrical readings of excerpts from this year’s featured author, John D. MacDonald, at several county libraries, the county has announced.

“The performances will bring to life the writings of MacDonald, a prolific novelist and short story writer who lived and worked in Sarasota from 1952 until his death in 1986,” a news release explains.

MacDonald completed 78 books across several genres, including thrillers and science fiction, the release notes. He is most well known for his 21-book Travis McGee crime thriller series and his novel The Executioners, which was adapted into the film Cape Fear, the release points out.
