Property appraisers around the state have adopted the use of the “3rd homestead estimator,” a website tool that helps property owners gain a better understanding of the proposed additional $25,000 homestead exemption, Sarasota County Property Appraiser Bill Furst has announced.

In the November General Election, citizens will be asked to vote on the proposed Amendment 1, a news release from Furst’s office explains. That amendment would expand the state’s homestead exemption benefit for homes with an assessed value greater than $100,000, the release points out. “The homestead estimator tool allows property owners to enter their county and property address to find out an estimate of tax benefits should Amendment 1 pass,” the release adds.

“The homestead estimator lets property owners see their approximate savings, if any, in tax dollars for their own property,” said Furst in the release. “This allows residents to make informed decisions, based on real data prior to the November election.”
