On Dec. 18, 2025, Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman announced that the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Corrections Training Academy had graduated its fourth class.

The “four newest recruits of the Courts and Corrections Division gathered at Robert L. Anderson Administration Center [in Venice] to celebrate with family, friends, and agency members,” a news release notes. The graduation followed the recruits’ completion of their extensive academy curriculum, during which they were instructed in physical fitness, firearms, defensive tactics, first aid, legal issues, officer safety, and correctional supervision standards, the release says. Additionally, they trained in emergency response and communications, and they “were made familiar with the agency’s facility and equipment,” the release points out.

“Our agency is proud to welcome these recruits and privileged to provide the training and education that form the foundation for their correctional careers,” said Sheriff Hoffman in the release.

The four graduates were Corrections Deputy Andrew Whitlow, who served as class president, and Corrections Deputies Piotr Staszynski, Robert Tutko and Nicholas Richards, the release notes. “Each of these deputies will be assigned to the Corrections Bureau, where they will continue their training,” the release points out.
