Longtime Foundation staff member, Sarasota community leader brings extensive philanthropic and nonprofit experience to permanent role

The Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation Board of Directors has named John Annis the Foundation’s president and CEO, “making permanent the leadership role he has held on an interim basis since March,” the Foundation reported in an Aug. 18 news release.
“John has provided steady, thoughtful leadership during an important time for the Foundation,” said Rebecca Barancik, chair of the Barancik Foundation board, in the release. “The Board quickly saw that as interim CEO, John was so much more than a caretaker,” Barancik continued in the release. “He has already developed and enacted new ideas for moving the Foundation forward, and he has provided the stability and confidence that enables our amazing team to excel at their work. With his deep respect for Margie and Chuck’s memory and his love of our community, John is the perfect fit to lead Barancik Foundation into its next chapter,” she concluded her comments in the release.
“Since assuming the interim role, Annis has worked with the Board and staff to improve the Foundation’s operations, clarify its priorities, and strengthen relationships with nonprofit and other community partners,” the release points out.
“I’m grateful for the confidence that the Barancik Foundation Board has placed in me, and I’m even more excited about the work ahead,” Annis said in the release. “We have a talented team, an engaged Board, and extraordinary partners throughout this community,” he continued. “My focus is on honoring Chuck and Margie’s legacy while continuing to make Barancik Foundation an even stronger and more effective philanthropic partner.”
Annis first joined the Barancik Foundation in 2017 as senior vice president of collaboration and impact, the release notes. “He brought extensive experience in philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, and community collaboration,” it adds. Further, it continues, he “has spent much of his career building relationships across organizations.”
Additionally, the release points out, “The Charles and Margery Barancik family has long believed in the power of philanthropy to shape our world and enrich the lives of all people. It was the expression of this belief that led them in 2014 to establish Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation — a private, family foundation” located in Sarasota.
The Barancik Foundation “creates initiatives and awards grants in Sarasota and beyond in the areas of education, humanitarian causes, arts and culture, the environment, and medical research,” the release says. For more information, visit www.barancikfoundation.org.
