Barefoot on the Beach at Nokomis Beach Plaza “will be back this winter and better than ever, Sarasota County has announced.

Formerly the Barefoot Beach Bazaar, the event has been revamped and moved to a new time, the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department explains in a news release.

This year, it will be from held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the second Saturday of the month from January through March, the release notes. It will be held at Nokomis Beach Plaza, located at 100 S. Casey Road in Nokomis.

“Barefoot on the Beach, which is free and open to the public, will still feature the Barefoot Beach Bazaar’s vendor/artisan show but will also have different themes each month to showcase the community’s economic or recreational sectors,” the release points out.

January’s theme will be Parks and Natural Areas Day; February’s will be Surf, Swim and Fish Day; and March’s theme will be Local Day, to celebrate community organizations, the release notes.

On Jan. 13, the public will be able to learn about local conservation efforts, costal ecology and area parks — all while shopping at the beach bazaar, the release adds.

The Feb. 10 event will feature local board experts, as well as a skim board demo on the sand, the release says. Then, on March 10, representatives of community organizations will share information and resources on how to get involved in Nokomis and Venice.
