Bay Runner trolley service to South Lido Key will resume Wednesday, Dec. 11, after it had to be suspended in late September because of damage wreaked on the shoreline by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the City of Sarasota has announced.

“To accommodate the complete regular route, parking safety enforcement will resume along Ben Franklin Drive from Lido Beach Pavilion to South Lido Key,” a news release also points out. “The enforcement is necessary to keep Ben Franklin Drive clear of illegal parking and ensure the trolley is able to turn around at the cul-de-sac at Ted Sperling Park,” the release explains.

From Dec. 6 through Dec. 10, the release points out, warnings will be issued for parking safety violations along the affected stretch of Ben Franklin Drive.

The resumed parking enforcement will take place on Ben Franklin Drive just between the Lido Beach Pavilion, which stands at 400 Ben Franklin Drive, and Ted Sperling Park, which is located at 2201 Ben Franklin Drive, the release notes.

“Parking enforcement will continue to be suspended from St. Armands Circle to the Lido Beach Pavilion,” the release points out.

“As Sarasota recovered from the hurricanes, the Bay Runner service resumed as quickly and safely as possible with a shortened route turning around at Lido Beach Pavilion,” the release says.

“The Bay Runner is a free, experiential open-air trolley service transporting riders” on a route that circulates along Main Street, St. Armands Circle and Lido Beach, the release explains. “The trolley operates every day of the year with convenient hours for working, shopping, dining and enjoying a beach sunset,” the release adds:

  • Sunday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday ,7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

More information about the Bay Runner, including a route map and a “convenient real-time mobile app,” is available at www.SarasotaBayRunner.com, the release notes.
