Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources hosting events

The staff of the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department “is calling all volunteers for a fun and rewarding way to earn community service hours and give back to the environment,” the staff announced this week.
The fifth annual Beach Blast Trifecta will be held in May for three days at six beaches, “with a chance to win prizes!” a news release points out.
“This free volunteer event series allows participants to help beautify and preserve local beaches while working alongside county staff, friends, and fellow volunteers,” the release explains.
Any individual who attends any three of the six cleanups will be entered in a drawing to win a prize on the final day of the trifecta, the release adds.
The following are the dates and locations:
North County
- Friday, May 2 — 5 to 7 p.m., Ted Sperling Park at South Lido Beach, which is located at 190 Taft Drive in Sarasota. (Meet at the playground.)
- Saturday, May 3 — 8 to 10 a.m., Siesta Beach, located at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key. (Meet at the Sunset Pavilion.)
- Sunday, May 4 — 9 to 11 a.m., Turtle Beach Park, located at 8918 Midnight Pass Road on the southern part of Siesta Key. (Meet at the playground.)
South County
- Friday, May 2 — 5 to 7 p.m., Manasota Beach Park, located at 8570 Manasota Key Road in Englewood. (Meet at the pavilion.)
- Saturday, May 3 — 8 to 10 a.m., North Brohard Beach, located at 1900 Harbor Drive S. in Venice. (Meet at the North Pavilion at Maxine Barritt Park.)
- Sunday, May 4 — 8 to 10 a.m., North Jetty Beach Park, located at 1000 S. Casey Key Road in Nokomis. (Meet at the pavilion.)

“Students can use this opportunity to fulfill community service hour requirements before the end of the school year,” the release also points out. “Join others in making a difference in preserving Sarasota County’s beautiful beaches,” the release says.
