Event free to people of all ages
In partnership with the Atlanta Braves, the staff of the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department will host the 27th annual Big Truck Day from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, at CoolToday Park in Wellen Park, near Venice and North Port, county staff has announced.
“Families and individuals of all ages are invited to explore more than 25 big trucks and heavy machines,” a news release says. Attendees will be able to take a close look at how a variety of equipment works — from tractors and bulldozers to fire trucks and cranes to specialized locomotives, the release adds. They will be able to pull leavers or honk horns from the driver’s seat, for examples.
This year’s event also will feature the new Sarasota County Fire Department tiller truck, which has a rear axle that is steered independently of the front axle, requires two drivers and holds a 100-foot aerial ladder, the release points out.
Further, free children’s games, do-it-yourself crafts — with instructors on hand, pedal car rides, tours of CoolToday Park, and stadium concessionaires with food and beverages for sale will be part of the fun, the release says.
CoolToday Park is located at 18800 West Villages Parkway in Venice.
