Exhibit open to the public through Aug. 31 at nonprofit’s Osprey headquarters

This week, Big Waters Land Trust announced the juried selections and winners of its second annual Community Art Show.
“Following the success of last year’s inaugural contest, this community exhibition continues to provide a platform for artists to share their unique perspectives on Florida’s natural beauty,” a news release explains. “Artists of all ages and experience levels were invited to submit their original work showcasing the beauty of nature for jury consideration,” the release adds. Altogether, “20 pieces were selected for inclusion in this year’s show,” the release notes.
The jury-selected winners for the 2025 Community Art Show are as follows:
- Best in Show — Downriver Pickers by Mark “Marco” Bell.
- Merit Award — Dune Walk II by Monica Spain.
- Merit Award — O’ Leary’s Shallows by Mark “Marco” Bell.
- Merit Award — Play of Light and Shadow by Nancy Hielscher.
The 2025 jury comprised “artist Danica Konatar, a renowned illustrator whose evocative Florida landscapes capture the state’s unique beauty; Lauren Marshall, an acclaimed painter and illustrator recognized for her dynamic and expressive portrayals of the environment; and Tim Jaeger, an award-winning artist whose nature-inspired works offer a deep connection to Florida’s natural world,” the release notes.
When making their selections, the jurors evaluated submissions on how well each artist showcased nature, used color and texture, paid attention to detail, and handled the overall composition of the piece, the release explains. The artists’ names were not shown to the jurors during the selection process, the release says.
The exhibit may be viewed through Aug. 31 at Big Waters Land Trust’s headquarters, which stands at 400 Palmetto Ave. in Osprey, the release points out. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
