Beginning Friday, June 25, the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) will begin offering first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine at its immunization clinics in Sarasota and North Port, the department has announced. Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will be available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with no appointment necessary, a news release points out.

DOH-Sarasota will continue to offer first and second doses of Moderna vaccine at its Sarasota Square Mall location until June 24, when it will permanently that location, the release adds.

Moderna COVID-19 walk-in vaccination clinic hours at the mall are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, the release notes. “Additionally, everyone receiving a vaccine will receive a $10 grocery store coupon as a thank you for receiving your vaccination,” the release points out.

“The vaccination clinic at Sarasota Square Mall has been a great success for our community,” said county Health Officer Chuck Henry in the release. “However, now that COVID-19 vaccine is readily available throughout Sarasota County, it’s time that we close this clinic as our community continues to reopen,” Henry added.

DOH-Sarasota has delivered more than 150,000 doses of Moderna vaccine at the mall clinic since it opened the facility on Jan. 28, the release says.

Beginning June 25, Moderna vaccine will be available at the following DOH Sarasota locations:

  • DOH-Sarasota, located at 2200 Ringling Blvd. in downtown Sarasota (34237) — Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; no appointment is necessary.
  • DOH-Sarasota, located at 6950 Outreach Way in North Port (34287) — Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; no appointment is necessary.

Everyone receiving a vaccine must present a valid ID and a signed consent form, and the person must be ready for the 15-minute wait after receiving the shot, the release points out. Individuals walking up for their first dose are asked to return to the same location 28 days later to receive their second dose, as they will not receive a second-dose appointment reminder, the release adds.
