The public is invited to enjoy a variety of activities as the City of Sarasota hosts an Earth Day Festival on Friday, April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Selby Five Points Park in downtown Sarasota, the city has announced.

“Our Earth Day Festival will be a fun, educational event designed for people to stop by during their lunch hour and learn what they can do to make a difference with the conservation and preservation of Mother Earth,” said City of Sarasota Sustainability Manager Stevie Freeman-Montes in a news release.

Information booths on a variety of environmental issues will be set up throughout the park. Among the topics they will cover will be backyard composting, community gardening, beekeeping, making “upcycled” furniture, rain barrels and electric vehicles, the release notes.

Prizes will be raffled off, as well, including a half-day kayak rental from Almost Heaven Kayak Adventures, a home composting system from Sunshine Community Compost “and even a tropical fruit tree,” the release adds.

For those who arrive with an appetite, light snacks made with local fresh ingredients will be offered, the release says. “Get to the Earth Day Festival early while these tasty temptations are available!” it concludes.
