The League of Women Voters of Sarasota County is inviting members of the public to attend a Jan. 16 luncheon and panel discussion that will feature two local experts in the field of health care, the nonprofit organization has announced.

The speakers will be Holly Bullard of the Florida Policy Institute and Irene Fleshner, immediate past president of CenterPlace Health, a news release says.

“Given that Florida leads the nation in the percentage of the population accessing insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA),” the release explains, “the expiration of ACA subsidies is expected to significantly impact our region.” The panelists will explain how the rise in health care premiums will affect the community “in terms of access and affordability,” the release points out.

The event will take place at the Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club, which stands at 8801 Stoneybrook Blvd. in Sarasota, the release adds.

Among the topics to be covered during the discussion are the following, the release adds:

  • How do Florida’s Medicaid requirements and coverage compare to the policies and status of other states?
  • What are ACA “enhanced subsidies” and how will their expiration affect premiums?
  • How will policy changes affect the current requirements for health care financial assistance?

A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion, the release notes.

“Seating is limited,” the release points out. For more information and to register, click here.
