At 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, the Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead (FOJT) will present a webinar titled Smart Bicycling 101: Tips on Being Safe on Your Bicycle, thanks to a grant it received from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, the nonprofit has announced.

“If you’re getting back on your bicycle after a lengthy hiatus, or if you’re a seasoned bicyclist and you wish to enhance your crash avoidance and bicycling handling skills, then this workshop is for you,” a news release says.

Led by a certified bicycle safety instructor, the webinar will focus on topics such as proper helmet fit, cycling gear and equipment, how to recognize and avoid various trail and road hazards, and principles of bicycling traffic laws, among other information.

Admission is free, the release points out, “but you must register to receive an invitation for the webinar.” To register, click on this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6815971812276/WN_HTLcGDhzTL-K2Ym_O6pjDw or visit ojtfriends.com/webinars.

The webinar host will be Rebecca Tasetano of Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead.

The lead presenter will be Ralph Monti, immediate past chair and board member of The League of American Bicyclists in Washington, D.C., the release says. He serves as a committee member of the Sarasota Bicycle-Pedestrian-Advisory Committee and as a League-certified bicycle safety instructor. Monti teaches bicycle safety and maintenance classes in Sarasota and Manatee counties, the release adds.

The co-presenter will be Bud Gaunce, immediate past president of the Sarasota Manatee Bicycle Club and that organization’s safety director, the release notes.

Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead is a nonprofit chapter of Friends of Sarasota County Parks, the release explains. The mission of Friends of Osprey Junction Trailhead is to support, promote and enhance Osprey Junction Trailhead, a Sarasota County park adjacent to The Legacy Trail.
