The public is invited to “Chalk the Park” on Sunday, March 5, at Nathan Benderson Park, Sarasota County has announced.
The Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department will host this free, family-friendly event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day, a news release explains. The festivities will include a chalk-drawing competition that will be open to the public, plus face painting and opportunities to learn how to paddle, row or do stand-up paddleboarding, the release adds.
Free refreshments will be provided. Additionally, the Sarasota County Fire Department, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol, Strider BMX bikes and Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue will have representatives on hand; some demonstrations will be offered.
Registration for the chalk competition will begin at 10 a.m., the release notes. Judging and the presentation of awards will take place from 2:15 to 3 p.m., with trophies to be given to the winners and gift bags to the participants.
Chalk in the Park will be held on the park’s Regatta Island, which is located at 5851 Nathan Benderson Circle in Sarasota.
Nathan Benderson Park will host the 2017 World Rowing Championships this fall.
