City and county administrative offices and other facilities to be closed Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day, the local governments have announced.

Garbage and recycling collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday in either jurisdiction, news releases pointed out.

The Bay Runner trolley in the city will operate on its regular schedule — 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the city release noted. “The Bay Runner’s route will be modified from 8 a.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. to accommodate the Veterans Day parade on Main Street,” the release added.

Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary, as follows:

  • Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, remains closed until further notice because of damage resulting from Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34thSt., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
  • The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, remains closed because of damage to the facility inflicted by Hurricane Milton. While the box office is closed, the release noted, tickets for shows resuming in January 2025 may be purchased online at vanwezel.org.

City staff also is reminding the public that the city, “in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, will host the annual Veterans Day parade at 10 a.m.” on Monday, Nov. 11, in downtown Sarasota.

The parade will start at the intersection of Main Street and Osprey Avenue and conclude at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park, which stands at the intersection of Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue, the release added. In the park, a ceremony will be held at approximately 11 a.m. Members of the public are encouraged to attend, the release noted.

The following Sarasota County Government offices and recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day:

  • Central County Landfill Administration Office.
  • Solid Waste Administrative Office, Chemical Collection Center and the Re-Uz-It Shop, located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota.
  • Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center remains closed because of damage from Hurricane Ian.
  • All Sarasota County recreation facilities, including Knights Trail Park.
  • Sarasota County Libraries and the Historical Resource Center.
  • Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
  • University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Sarasota County Extension Office (Sarasota County UF/IFAS Extension and Sustainability).
  • The Florida Department of Health-Sarasota.
  • Office of the Sarasota County Property Appraiser.
  • Offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller. Services may be accessed online at www.SarasotaClerk.com.
  • Offices of the Sarasota County Tax Collector.
  • Offices of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.

Operating and open on Nov. 11 in the county

  • Breeze services (standard and touring routes, Breeze OnDemand, and Breeze Plus).
  • Disposal operations at the Central County Landfill, which stands at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, and the Citizens’ Convenience Center, located at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis. The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. “All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes before closing,” the county release pointed out.
