No garbage, recycling or yard waste pickups planned for residents

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day, the local governments have announced.
No residential garbage, recycling or yard waste will be collected either in the city or within the unincorporated areas of the county, news releases point out.
The Friday pickups will take place on Saturday, city and county staff members note.
For more information about garbage and recycling collections in the city of Sarasota, the city news release says, “contact the Solid Waste Division at 941-263-6170.”
Further, city staff has pointed out that Parks and Recreation Department facilities ,including the Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, the Lido Pool, the Payne Park Tennis Center and the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, along with the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall box office, will be closed on July 4.
The Bay Runner trolley will operate on its regular schedule, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., on July 4. It will turn around at the Lido Beach Pavilion on July 5 and July 6, “to accommodate anticipated increased holiday traffic” expected during the holiday period, the city release adds.
Sarasota County Transit’s Breeze 77 Siesta Islander Trolley and OnDemand services will operate as regularly scheduled, the county release says.
County closings on July 4
The following county facilities will be closed on July 4:
- The Florida Department of Health facilities in Sarasota County. (They also were to be closed on July 3.)
- All Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources offices and facilities.
- Sarasota County University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and Sustainability offices.
- Sarasota County Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets, standard routes, the Breeze 76 Flyer — which operates between downtown Sarasota and the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport — and Breeze Plus.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources recreation facilities and the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
- All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection centers.
- The offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller.
- The offices of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.
The county news release also points out that the Central County Landfill will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, because of the holiday collection schedule; however, the Construction and Demolition (C&D) area will close at 2 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
