No garbage, recycling or yard waste collections will take place on Sept. 2 in the city or within unincorporated Sarasota County
City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day, the local governments have announced.
No garbage, recycling or yard waste pick-up will occur that day, both local governments have pointed out.
In the city of Sarasota, the Monday collections will occur on Tuesday, and the Tuesday collections will take place on Wednesday. The Thursday and Friday collections will not be affected, the city news release notes.
For customers in the unincorporated areas of the county, those collections will be delayed by one day for the rest of next week, concluding with the Friday pick-ups on Saturday, Sept. 7, the county news release says.
In the city, the free Bay Runner trolley will operate at its regular hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the city release adds.
Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary, as follows:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane,will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
- The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be closed.
The City Commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 9 a.m. in the Commission Chambers of City Hall, which stands at 1565 First St.

County closures on Monday, Sept. 2
- All Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources offices and facilities.
- Sarasota County University of Florida Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and Sustainability offices.
- Sarasota County Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
- Breeze regular bus and Plus services.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources recreation facilities, including the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
- All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Centers.
- Resilient SRQ Housing Recovery case managers will be unavailable in person or by phone or email. Case managers will answer any pending voicemails or emails the following business day.
- Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections offices.
- The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota).
- Sarasota County Tax Collector’s offices.
- Sarasota County Property Appraiser’s Office.
- Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller offices.
County facilities and services with revised hours
- The Multi-Agency Resource Center, located at 2923 Ashton Road in Sarasota, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. It will be closed on Sunday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 2. The Resource Center will resume normal hours on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Regular hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
- The Central County Landfill will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, because of the holiday collection schedule; however, the Construction and Demolition (C&D) area will close at 2 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
Operating under normal hours on Monday, Sept. 2
- The Breeze 77 Siesta Islander, the Breeze 76 Flyer and OnDemand services will operate on their normal schedules.
