Garbage, recycling and yard waste collections to remain on normal schedule
City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, the local government staffs have announced.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday, both city and county staff point out.
The city’s Bay Runner trolly will run on its regular schedule, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the city release notes.
Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary, as follows:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
- The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be open during its regular hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The City Commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the Commission Chambers within City Hall, which stands at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota.

County facilities closed on Jan. 15
The following are the county facilities and services that will be closed in observance of the holiday:
- Libraries and Historical Resources’ branches and office.
- Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
- University of Florida/Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Office in Sarasota County.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources’ recreation centers and the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
- The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop, located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road; the Central County Landfill administrative office standing at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis; and the Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center located at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice.
- The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.
- Sarasota County Tax Collector’s offices.
- The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections offices.
- The Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller offices. Services can be accessed online at www.SarasotaClerk.com.
County facilities operating at normal hours on Jan. 15
- All Breeze services.
- Disposal operations located at the Central County Landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road and the Citizens’ Convenience Center standing at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
