Garbage and recycling collections to take place on regular schedules
City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday in either the city or the county, news releases point out.
The free Bay Runner trolley will operate on its regular schedule but with a modified route to accommodate the Memorial Day parade on Main Street, the city release notes.
Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane,will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
- The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be closed.

The City of Sarasota, in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, will host the annual Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, in downtown Sarasota, the city release reminds the public.
The parade will start at the intersection of Main Street and Osprey Avenue and conclude at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park, located at the intersection of Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue. In the park, a ceremony will begin at approximately 11 a.m. “The public is encouraged to attend,” the release adds.

Sarasota County’s holiday schedule
The following facilities operated by Sarasota County Government will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.
- All Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources offices and facilities.
- The Florida Department of Health-Sarasota County.
- Sarasota County’s University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences Extension and Sustainability offices (UF/IFAS).
- Sarasota County Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
- Breeze regular bus and Plus services.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department recreation facilities and the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
- The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and the Re-Uz-It Shop, located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road.
- The Central County Landfill administrative office standing at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis and the Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center, located at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice.
- The Sarasota County Tax Collector’s Office.
- The offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller.
- The offices of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.
Operating normal hours on Monday, May 27
- Disposal operations at the Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, and the Citizens’ Convenience Center standing at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, all customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the closing time.
- The Breeze 77 Siesta Islander, the Breeze 76 Flyer and OnDemand services will operate on their regular schedules.
