Garbage, recycling and yard waste collections to remain on normal schedule for July 3

City of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day, the municipality’s staff has announced.

“Garbage/recycling and yard waste collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday,” a news release points out.

For questions about garbage and recycling collections, persons should visit the Solid Waste Division webpage at SarasotaFL.Gov or call 941-263-6170, the release adds.

The following City of Sarasota facilities will have varying hours in effect on Friday, July 3, the release notes “All the facilities will be closed on Saturday, July 4, it points out:

Members of the community are “invited to attend two special events celebrating America250” that the City of Sarasota is co-sponsoring, the release continues. “Both events are free and open for all to enjoy” as the city celebrates America’s semiquincentennial, the release adds:

Spirit of ’76 — America’s 250th Celebration

The Spirit of ’76 block party will take place on Friday, July 3, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Selby Five Points Park, which is located at 1 Central Ave., the release says. “This event will include food trucks, vendors, lawn games, and live music from the country and rock band Southbound 75, the release notes. Further, “An immersive art projection experience will coincide with the celebration for approximately three hours after sunset at Selby Public Library’s south alcove,” the release continues. “This interactive virtual fireworks display” will be provided by locally owned LightMural,” with support of the city’s Public Art Program, it notes. July Fourth Fireworks on the Bay
