City of Sarasota announces holiday schedule for administrative offices and recreational facilities

Garbage collections also to be affected

City of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 22, and Monday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, for New Year’s Day, city staff has announced.

No solid waste collections will be provided for city residents on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, with pickup occurring one day later, a news release emphasizes:

  • For customers whose normal collection day would be Monday, Dec. 25, pickup will occur on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
  • For customers whose normal collection day would be Tuesday, Dec. 26, pickup will occur on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
  • For customers whose normal collection day would be Monday, Jan. 1, pickup will occur on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
  • For customers whose normal collection day would be Tuesday, Jan. 2,pickup will occur on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota recreational facilities will vary, as follows:

  • Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23; closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed from Dec. 22 to Dec. 25 and on Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 22 and Dec. 23 and closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m. Dec. 22 and Dec. 23 and closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, 2024.
  • The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 22; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 23; and closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, 2024.
  • The Bay Runner trolley, which operates every day of the year, will maintain its regular hours every day during the holidays, the release adds. However, the release emphasizes,the route will be adjusted on Sunday, Dec. 31, because of the New Year’s Eve festivities. From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., a modified route will run from the intersection of Ringling Boulevard and South School Avenue, just one block south of the normal route, to South Lido Key at Ted Sperling Park.
