For the sixth straight year, the City of Sarasota’s Purchasing Division has received “a prestigious honor from the National Procurement Institute,” City Manager Tom Barwin reported in his Oct. 9 newsletter.

The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award is bestowed on public and nonprofit agencies that demonstrate a commitment to procurement excellence and “‘embrace innovation, professionalism, productivity, leadership and e-procurement,’” Barwin pointed out.

“That description fits our Purchasing Division to a T,” he continued. “Purchasing General Manager David Boswell and his team have made great advancements in recent years in how we competitively acquire goods and services,” Barwin continued. “The team has developed several helpful training sessions for vendors and instituted new online tools that streamline the process for those interested in doing business with the City,” Barwin added.

Sarasota is one of just 69 cities and 188 total agencies to receive this award for 2020, Barwin pointed out.
