No garbage, recycling or yard waste collections to be made on Sept. 7 in either the city or county
Most County and City of Sarasota government offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day, “a national holiday honoring the contributions and achievements of American workers,” as a city news release notes.
No garbage, recycling or yard waste collections will be made on Sept. 7, both local governments stress. For county and city customers, pickups generally will be set back a day.
The county collections will take place as follows, the county news release says:
- Tuesday, Sept. 8 — Collection for Monday customers.
- Wednesday, Sept. 9 — Collection for Tuesday customers.
- Thursday, Sept. 10 — Collection for Wednesday customers.
- Friday, Sept. 11 — Collection for Thursday customers.
- Saturday, Sept. 12 — Collection for Friday customers.
On Sept. 12, the county release adds, the Central County Landfill will remain open until 4:30 p.m. The construction debris area will close at 1:30 p.m.
Regular collection schedules in the county will resume on Monday, Sept. 14, county staff notes.
In the city, its staff points out, the Monday collections will occur on Tuesday, and the Tuesday collections will occur on Wednesday. Pickups on Thursday and Friday will not be affected, the city news release says.

- Breeze standard bus routes, Breeze Plus, ticket outlets and the Breeze administrative office.
- University of Florida/Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Office in Sarasota County.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department recreation centers.
- Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop.
- Venice Chemical Collection Center and administrative office.
- The Central County Landfill and administrative office.
- Public Utilities Department cashier windows and customer service offices.
- Office of the Sarasota County Tax Collector.
- The Sarasota County Property Appraiser’s Office.
- Offices of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.
- Offices of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller.
- The facilities of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.
County operations with normal hours on Monday, Sept. 7
- Breeze OnDemand, 77 Siesta Islander, and 78 Bay Runner.
The Labor Day schedule for City of Sarasota facilities follows:
- Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, is closed.
- Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 34th St., will be open from 6 to 10 a.m.
• The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be closed.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the regular City Commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m., while a Special City Commission meeting will take place starting at 5:30 p.m., regarding the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027, the city release adds. Both meetings will be held in the Commission Chambers within City Hall, which stands at 1565 First St.
