County and City of Sarasota administrative offices and other facilities to be closed on Memorial Day, May 27

City and County of Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.

Additionally,the city, in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, will host the annual Memorial Day parade. That event will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, in downtown Sarasota. (See the related article in this issue.)

Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickups will continue as regularly scheduled on Memorial Day for both city and county residents, the two local governments have announced.

Hours of operation at recreation and cultural arts facilities will vary in the city, as follows:

  • Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex, located at 2650 Waldemere St., will be closed.
  • Bobby Jones Golf Club, located at 1000 Circus Blvd.,will be open for regular hours — 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weather permitting.
  • Children’s Fountainat Bayfront Park,which is located at the intersection of Ringling Boulevard and Bayfront Drive, will begin its summer hours — 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be closed.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center, located at 2050 Adams Lane, will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, located at 1845 John Rivers St., will be closed.
  • The box office of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall,located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail will be closed.

The Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) administrative office and downtown transfer station customer service window will be closed on May 27, a county news release says.

No SCAT bus services will be provided on May 27, the county release adds, except for the Siesta Key Breeze open-air trolley on Siesta Key.

Among county closings are the following:

  • Sarasota County’s chemical collection centers, located at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice and 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota, will be closed May 27.
  • All county libraries and the county History Center will be closed on May 27.
  • Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range will be closed on May 27.
  • Recreation centers will be closed on May 27.
  • Administrative offices at the chemical collection center located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road and the Central County Landfill located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed on May 27.
  • Sarasota County Contracted Human Services and Veterans Services will be closed on May 27.
  • The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County will be closed on May 27.

The Central County Landfill (disposal operations) and the Citizens’ Convenience Center, located at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be open on May 27.
