FDOT resurfacing project scheduled to start in 2026

In unanimously approving their May 6 Consent Agenda of routine business matters, the Sarasota County commissioners agreed to allow the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to use a portion of the county’s property located at 2200 Stickney Point Road in Sarasota to facilitate upcoming upgrades to Stickney Point Road.
Sarasota County Fire Station 11 stands at 2200 Stickney Point Road, a map shows.
A county staff memo in the May 6 agenda packet explained that FDOT sought the agreement “for the purpose of sloping, grading, tying in, harmonizing and reconnecting existing features of County property with the highway improvements to be constructed.”
The project involving Stickney Point Road improvements “is scheduled to begin in or around May 2026” and is expected to be completed in June 2027 the memo added.
A Sarasota News Leader search of Sarasota County projects listed in FDOT’s Five Year Work Program found that the department plans to resurface State Road 72 (Clark Road/Stickney Point Road) from U.S. 41 to east of Derek Avenue in 2026. The Work Program also notes that $14,455,582 has been budgeted for that initiative in the state’s 2026 fiscal year, which will begin July 1.
