1-mile fun runs planned to encourage children and families to participate in healthful activities together

Sarasota County’s annual Kids’ Summer Beach Runs will return to Siesta and North Brohard beaches this June and July, offering 1-mile fun runs for children and families to enjoy healthful activities together, county staff has announced.
The free Kids’ Summer Beach Runs are scheduled as follows, a news release points out:
- Tuesdays, June 3 through July 29, at Siesta Public Beach, which stands at 948 Beach Road on Siesta Key.
- Wednesdays, June 4 through July 30, at North Brohard Beach, which is located at 1400 S. Harbor Drive in Venice.
The runs will take place the week of July 4, the release notes.
Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. each beach run day; the site at Siesta Public Beach will be near the playground; for North Brohard, the Venice Fishing Pier will be the location, the release adds. The runs will begin at 6:30 p.m. at both locations, the release says.
Each participant will receive a finisher ribbon, the release continues. Each child who completes four runs will earn a free T-shirt, “a free kid’s meal coupon for Gecko’s Grill & Pub” and a coupon for child’s shoes at New Balance. “The runs can be completed at either location,” the release points out.
The Kids’ Summer Beach Runs are presented by Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources staff, New Balance of Sarasota and Sarasota Crew, the release says. Additional sponsors are the Florida Department of Health-Sarasota, Friends of Sarasota County Parks, Gecko’s Grill & Pub, Manasota Track Club, Sharky’s on the Pier and Siesta Beach Eats.
