Sarasota County staff will host a grand opening for Fire Station No. 14 (Vamo) at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, the county has announced.

“The celebration and traditional ‘uncoupling of the hose’ ceremony will honor the completion of Sarasota County’s newest fire station,” a news release says. The two-story facility will serve the Vamo and Osprey areas, the release adds.

Fire Station No. 14, which is located at 8821 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, is one of four new county fire stations that are replacing outdated facilities, the release explains. The county opened Fire Station No. 16 (Twin Lakes) in November 2015 and No. 17 (Nathan Benderson Park) in January. The new Fire Station No. 12 (Bee Ridge) is scheduled to open next month, the release adds.

The Station No. 14 structure is designed to withstand wind loads of 150-plus miles per hour, the release notes. “It is also a ‘green’ facility that is poised to achieve a minimum level of ‘Certified’ with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System,” the release says.
