The City of Sarasota’s Jan. 7 Fresh Fridays event will feature the theme Dance under the Stars, the city has announced, with the event scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m. on Palm Avenue between Main Street and the Palm Avenue parking garage.

This “outdoor, pedestrian-only, dance-themed event” will include not only free party favors but also “a dance showcase for everyone in attendance,” courtesy of professional instructors, a news release says.

Ballroom dancing will be the focus from 8 to 9 p.m., followed by country/western dancing (9-10 p.m.), and disco (10-11 p.m.), the release adds.

The Jan. 7 Fresh Friday will be presented by the City of Sarasota and its Downtown Improvement District, in collaboration with Next-Mark LLC, the release notes. Dynasty Dance Clubs will be an event partner.

Parking will be available in the State Street garage and the Palm Avenue garage, as well as along Main Street, First Street, Orange Avenue, Palm Avenue, Pineapple Avenue and Gulfstream Avenue, the release points out.

Fresh Fridays take place on the first Friday of the month in downtown Sarasota. “These pedestrian-only events serve to showcase all the dining options, merchants, and recreational assets located within the city to further establish downtown Sarasota as a vibrant cultural hub,” the release explains. “These events are inclusive and always free, providing an opportunity for all members of our community to connect, socialize, and enjoy their city in new and dynamic ways,” the release adds.
