July 19 public meeting to be conducted on updates to City of Sarasota’s Engineering Design Criteria Manual

Comments welcome in person, with a third community survey underway online

During a July 19 public meeting, members of the community are invited to learn about the update of the City of Sarasota’s Engineering Design Criteria Manual (EDCM) and to participate in break-out sessions regarding specific topics in the manual, city staff has announced.

“The EDCM is a guide that provides established design standards for roads, trails, sidewalks, and other infrastructure within the right-of-way,” the release explains. City of Sarasota staff and private sector engineers and developers use the manual, the release notes.

The public meeting will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, in the SRQ Media Studio, he release adds. That facility is located in the City Hall Annex, which stands at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota.

During the meeting, the release says, city transportation and engineering staff will provide a presentation on the final draft of the EDCM 2023 update, which includes revisions to chapters on streetscapes, street design, stormwater and erosion, subdivision regulations, and solid waste. The meeting will serve as an opportunity for members of the public to provide comments on the final draft prior to City Commission public hearings on it, which are planned for this fall, the release notes.

“Public outreach for the EDCM 2023 update started in November 2022,” the release points out. “Four community outreach events have been held,” it adds, and two online surveys have been conducted. A third survey is open until July 28; it may be completed online.
