Event to be held at Jacaranda Library in Venice

On Tuesday, June 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Venice, the Sarasota County Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA) will host a second meeting “to help residents better understand how the zoning and planning system works, when public involvement is most effective, and how communities can stay informed before decisions are far down the road,” the nonprofit organization has announced
The workshop will be conducted at the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library, which stands at 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd. in Venice, a CONA newsletter says.
“The response to CONA Board Member Susan Schoettle’s presentation on the zoning and planning process at our [April 14] CONA meeting was tremendous,” the newsletter points out. “Several residents told us it was one of the most informative discussions they had attended on how development decisions are actually made in Sarasota County.”
Thanks to that “strong interest — especially from residents in South County currently facing major development issues,” the Venice workshop had been scheduled, the newsletter notes.
“Understanding the planning process helps communities move from simply reacting to projects to becoming informed participants in the decision-making process,” the newsletter explains. “Public hearings remain important — but meaningful involvement often begins much earlier,” it adds.
