Garbage collection schedule will be adjusted as well
Most Sarasota County government offices and facilities will be closed Thursday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas holiday, and Friday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day, the county has announced.
“That includes all county recreation centers, Arlington Pool, Payne Park and the public pistol and rifle range at Knights Trail Park,” a news release points out.
County libraries will be closed Dec. 24-25 and on Jan. 1. They will also shut their doors early, at 5 p.m., on Dec. 31, the release adds.
The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, which is a state agency, will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, as well, the release notes.
No Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus service will be offered on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, the release continues, but regular bus operations will be provided on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Residents who live in unincorporated areas of the county will not have their yard waste, recyclables or garbage collected on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, the release points out. Residents whose regular collection day is Friday will have their yard waste, recyclables and garbage picked up on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, the release notes. Because collection times vary, residents should place refuse materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup, the release advises.
Sarasota County’s chemical collection center and the ReUzIt Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan 1. The chemical collection center at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice will be closed Dec. 21-22, 24-25, 28-29 and Jan. 1, the release adds. The Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
The Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Sarasota, will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The landfill administrative offices will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, the release notes.
