Recognition based on a number of factors
Newsweek has recognized the Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center among its “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2025,” Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) has announced.
“SMH’s nursing home was one of three recognized in Sarasota this year,” a news release noted.
Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s editor-in-chief, “said the news organization partnered with respected global data research firm Statista to recognize 1,050 nursing homes of nearly 15,000 facilities across the 25 states with the highest number of facilities according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data,” SMH reported in the news release. The top nursing homes in each state were assessed and then ranked on the basis of four pillars, the release added: performance data, recommendations of medical professionals, accreditations, and resident satisfaction.
“Families across the nation entrust nursing homes with the health and dignity of their loved ones,” Cooper said in a Newsweek report. “Finding the right facility is not just about numbers; it’s about ensuring your family member receives the care and attention they deserve.”
The Newsweek evaluation is based on the following quality and performance indicators, SMH noted:
- Performance Score — The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services“ provides monthly updated performance data for each nursing home that participates in Medicare or Medicaid. This data was used to score each nursing home” on the basis of health inspections, staffing, and quality measures.
- Reputation Score — Survey participants were asked to name up to 10 of the best nursing homes in their own states and up to five of the best nursing homes in the United States, the release continued. “They also were asked to recommend nursing homes by considering the quality of care offered, staff training level, and the number of on-duty personnel,” the release said.
- Accreditation Score — Data on nursing homes provided by The Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
- Resident Satisfaction Score — “Evaluations from residents and relatives were included for each nursing home. Based on the available data, nursing homes received a resident satisfaction rating between 0 and 5 stars,” the release noted.
In addition to being nationally ranked by Newsweek, Sarasota Memorial’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center repeatedly has been listed “among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report and other independent quality rating organizations,” the release pointed out. “Health systems and nursing facilities cannot opt out of these annual studies or pay for inclusion on the lists,” the release said.
“Located at 5640 Rand Blvd., Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a 120-bed facility that offers short- and long-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation for people recovering from surgery, injury or illness,” the release explained. “Its multi-disciplinary team cares for approximately 100 residents around the clock, 365 days a year,” the release added
“Our team works incredibly hard to provide our residents and patients with the most comfortable and healing environment,” said Maria DeCarlo, vice president of Sarasota Memorial Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Services, in the release. “These awards are a testament to their diligence and dedication to our community.”
SMH also has been ranked repeatedly among the nation’s 50 best hospitals for specialized care in its hospital-based inpatient Rehabilitation Pavilion, the release noted.
