Proposal calls for rise from $2 to $4
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Sarasota County Commission will conduct a public hearing on a proposal to increase the standard Breeze Transit OnDemand fare from $2 to $4.
The issue is related to “the rise in ridership and the growing budget for the service,” a news release explains.
“We are pleased by our community’s continued use of our Breeze OnDemand service,” said Transit Director Jane Grogg in the release. “Three years in, ridership keeps growing. When demand exceeds capacity, we need to consider fare adjustments to balance cost and quality,” she pointed out. “It’s crucial we provide a reliable service that meets expectations for Sarasota County, our riders, and the community,” Grogg added.
Sarasota County already has “increased vehicle hours to keep up with demand,” the release notes. During the public hearing, the release continues, “the Sarasota County Commission, sitting as the Sarasota County Transportation Authority, will consider whether a fare increase will help align services with the county’s financial resources.”
