Musical entertainment to be provided for attendees in Van Wezel parking lot

On Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to noon, City of Sarasota residents are being invited to attend “Shred Stock,” which will be “a free document shredding event,” city staff has announced.
It will be conducted in the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall parking lot, which is located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, a news release says.
Hosted by the Central Records Division in the Office of the City Auditor and Clerk, in partnership with The Bay Park, the release explains, Shred Stock will allow residents to “safely and securely dispose of up to four boxes of documents. Destruction of sensitive, out-of-date documents is an important step in protecting against fraud and keeping personal information secure,” the release points out.
“Any paper document or folder can be disposed of at Shred Stock,” regardless of whether it contains staples or paper clips,” the release continues. However, binders, binder-clipped documents, and digital media (CDs, DVDs, hard drives, etc.) will not be accepted, it adds.
A participant should place boxes in the trunk of a vehicle, from which the materials will be collected by Central Records staff, the release says. After all documents have been shredded, the boxes will be returned to residents’ vehicles, the release adds.
During the event, participants can enjoy a performance of 1960s classics by The Garbage Men, “a local, sustainability-focused band” known for its “unique style and upcycled homemade instruments,” the release also points out. Those who attend Shred Stock also will receive a coupon for 15% off purchases at The Nest, “graciously provided” by The Bay Park, the release notes.
“Attendees should remain in their vehicles throughout the duration of the event,” the release points out. Proof of city residence may be required, it says.
