Hours to be 9 a.m. to noon

The staff of the City of Sarasota is inviting residents “to attend Shred Stock, a free document shredding and electronics recycling event, from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 7,” in the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall parking lot, the city has announced.
The Van Wezel is located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail.
“Destruction of sensitive, out-of-date documents is an important and easy step in protecting against identity theft and fraud by ensuring that personal information stays out of the wrong hands,” a city news release explains. “Any paper document or folder will be accepted for disposal at Shred Stock, regardless of staples or paper clips,” the release points out.
Participants should place their document boxes and unwanted electronics in the trunks of their vehicles, “to be removed by Records and Information Management staff and safely shredded and recycled” on-site,” the release says.
This fall’s event not only will be the city’s fourth Shred Stock, the release notes, but also “the biggest yet, with double the shredding capacity” of the event this spring.
Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles, the release adds, but they will be able to “enjoy live entertainment while they wait for their turn, courtesy of the well-known, sustainability-focused local band The Garbage-Men, who will be performing hits from the ’60s on their signature homemade instruments.”
Shred Stock is available only to city of Sarasota residents, the release stresses. Proof of city residency required.
