As repairs and renovation work proceed on the Siesta Drive bridge to Siesta Key, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a modification to the bridge-opening schedule for marine traffic.

From Monday, June 22, through Friday, July 24, the openings will be reduced to four per night, FDOT says, “to accommodate the curing period needed for cement.”

Further, the FDOT update points out, a four-hour notice is required for evening bridge openings.

FDOT staff reported earlier that overnight lane closures should be expected from June 14 to July 14, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., “as crews work on the concrete bridge deck and apply epoxy overlay protection.” “Crews will work on one lane at a time, alternating sides,” that notice pointed out. However, FDOT cautions that “dates and times may change depending on weather or work schedules.”

However, the department has stressed, “No lane closures are scheduled during holidays so no lane closures will occur during the July Fourth period, from Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5.

The completion of the work still is expected later this year, FDOT notes.
