Registration is open through Jan. 10 for the 33rd Annual Gulf Coast Games for Life, which will take place this month and in February at locations throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties, Sarasota County staff has announced.

The 2022 Gulf Coast Games for Life events are open to amateur athletes age 50 and older as of Dec. 31, 2022, a news release points out. “The games are a qualifying event for the Florida Senior Games State Competition, which serves as a qualifier for the 2022 National Senior Games,” which will be held in Fort Lauderdale, the release says.

Gulf Coast Games for Life consists of 16 events, with the first — a 5K road race — set for Jan. 15. Other competitions are scheduled from Jan. 30 through Feb. 6, the release notes.

Among other Gulf Coast Games for Life competitions will be basketball shooting, bowling, golf, pickleball and shuffleboard, the release adds.

Events will take place in Sarasota County, Manatee County, and the City of North Port.

A one-time registration fee of $12 is required, with an additional $3 payment per event required, the release adds. A facility fee may be necessary for some events, the release points out.

Sarasota County’s Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department, Manatee County’s Parks and Natural Resources Department, and the City of North Port’s Parks and Recreation Department collaborate on the Gulf Coast Games for Life, the release says.
