Garbage pickup to be delayed one day; Bobby Jones Golf Club to offer ‘Turkey Shoot’; Lido Pool to remain open Nov. 24 and 25
Sarasota City Hall and Sarasota County government offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday, the city and county have announced.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection will be delayed one day in both the city and county, news releases point out. For example, people who normally have their materials picked up on Thursday will have that done on Friday this week instead, the releases note. For residents whose regular collection day is Friday, yard waste, recyclables and garbage will be collected Saturday, Nov. 26.
County libraries will reopen Saturday, Nov. 26.
On Thanksgiving Day, the Bobby Jones Golf Club in Sarasota will host the Eighth Annual ‘Turkey Shoot’ with a special 8:45 a.m. shotgun offer: $23 for 18 holes riding, plus a discounted breakfast buffet at the on-site restaurant, Libby’s Greenseide, the release adds.
The Lido Pool, located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be open during its regular hours on both Thursday and Friday — 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. — the release continues. The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex at 1845 34th St. will be closed on Thanksgiving, but it will be open on Friday from 6 to 10 a.m.
No Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus service will be offered on Thanksgiving Day; however, full service will resume on Friday, Nov. 25. The SCAT administrative office and the Downtown Transfer Station customer service window will be closed Thursday and Friday, the county news release says.
Payne Park Tennis Center will be closed on Thursday but will be open for regular hours, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Friday. Arlington Park and the Knight Trail Park gun range will be closed Thursday and Friday, the county release adds.
Sarasota County’s chemical collection centers located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota and 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice — along with the ReUzIt Shop located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road — will be closed Thursday and Friday.
The Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be closed Thursday but will be open Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All three centers will be open Saturday, Nov. 26.
The Central County Landfill, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Sarasota, will be closed Thursday, but it will be open on Friday. The landfill administrative offices will be closed both Thursday and Friday.
