Sarasota county and city government offices to be closed on Feb. 19 in observance of Presidents Day

Garbage, recycling and yard waste collections will not be affected

Most Sarasota County and City Government offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 19, for the national observance of President’s Day, the two local governments have announced.

Garbage/recycling and yard waste collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday, they have pointed out in news releases.

County facilities and services closed on Monday, Feb. 19

The following are the county facilities and services that will be closed in observance of the holiday: 

  • Libraries and Historical Resources’ branches and office.
  • Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets.
  • University of Florida/Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Office in Sarasota County.
  • Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources’ recreation centers and the Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range.
  • The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop, located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road; the Central County Landfill administrative office standing at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis; and the Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center located at 250 S. Jackson Road in Venice.
  • Sarasota County Tax Collector’s offices.
  • The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections offices.
  • The Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller offices. Services can be accessed online at

Operating under normal hours on Monday, Feb. 19

  • The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County.
  • All Breeze Transit services.
  • Disposal operations at the Central County Landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road and the Citizens’ Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All customers unloading by hand should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.

The city’s Bay Runner trolley will run on its regular schedule, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the city release notes.

Holiday hours of operation at City of Sarasota facilities will vary, as follows:

The regular City Commission meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Commission Chambers within City Hall, which stands at 1565 First St. in downtown Sarasota.
