Recognition comes from National Association of Elections Officials

The Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office has received a People’s Choice Award for Professional Practice Program from the National Association of Election Officials, known as the Election Center, Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner’s staff has announced.
Turner was in Little Rock, Ark., to accept the award, a news release notes.
During the same event, staff of the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office presented a paper titled Planning for Elections in a Changing Landscape, which focused on the Elections Office’s “use of data to drive decision-making in order to best serve the ever-growing voter population of Sarasota County,” the release adds.
“I am so proud of the team we have assembled in Sarasota County,” Turner said in the release. “We are constantly evaluating the work that we do, looking for ways to improve and be more efficient,” he continued. “We are honored to be recognized by the Election Center and have the opportunity to present to other election administrators from around the country.”
The central focus of the paper was the Elections Office’s 2023 re-precincting initiative, the release explains. “The 12-month project analyzed growth trends throughout the county to identify potential polling location capacity issues. As a result of the study, eight precincts were revised while four new ones were created, increasing the number of precincts in Sarasota County from 99 to 103,” the release continues. Nine new polling locations were added, the release says.
“Along the way,” the release points out, “the team gained valuable insights [in regard to] polling location identification and evaluation, staffing, equipment allocation, GIS [geographical information system] mapping analysis and population and voter roll projections.”
The National Association of Election Officials “provides resources and support to help elections professionals navigate the election process,” the release notes. Its membership consists of election officials at the state and local levels, along with officials involved in elections at every level of government.
