Solid waste collections will be affected
Most Sarasota County Government offices and services will be closed in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays between Dec. 22 and Dec. 25 and on Jan. 1, 2024, the county has announced.
Solid waste collections will be affected by the holidays, as well, a news release notes.
All solid waste facilities, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Centers, will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1, for the holidays, the release points out.
No curbside collection services will be offered for trash, recycling and yard waste on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1, the release says.
All remaining collections delayed by one day:
- Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Jan 2 — collections for Monday customers.
- Wednesday, Dec. 27, and Jan. 3 — collections for Tuesday customers.
- Thursday, Dec. 28, and Jan. 4 — collections for Wednesday customers.
- Friday, Dec. 29, and Jan. 5 — collections for Thursday customers.
- Saturday, Dec. 30, and Jan. 6 — collections for Friday customers.
Because collection times vary, residents should place materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup, the release adds.
Other closings will be observed as follows:
- The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota Countywill be closed Dec. 25, 26, and 29 and on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2, 2024.
- The offices of the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Sarasota County will be closed Dec. 22 and 25 and on Jan. 1, 2024.
- Libraries and Historical Resources — All locations will be closedDec. 22 through Dec. 25 and on Jan. 1.
- Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources — Knight Trail Park pistol and rifle range will beopen Friday, Dec. 22, and then closed Saturday, Dec. 23, through Tuesday, Dec. 26, and closed again from Sunday, Dec. 31, through Tuesday, Jan, 2, 2024. The range will reopen with normal operations on Wednesday, Dec. 27, and on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Recreation centers will be closed Friday, Dec. 22, through Monday, Dec. 25, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2024.
- The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, the administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop located at 8750 Bee Ridge Road will be closed Dec. 22-25 and on Jan. 1.
- The Jackson Road Chemical Collection Center remains closed because of impacts from Hurricane Ian in 2022.
- The Citizens’ Convenience Center, located at 4010 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be open on Saturday, Dec. 23, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. It will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1.
- The Central County Landfill, standing at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis, will be open on Saturday, Dec. 23, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. It will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1.
- The landfill and Citizens’ Convenience Center will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, and on Jan. 6 because of the holiday collection schedule; however, the Construction and Demolition (C&D) area will close at 2 p.m. those days. All persons planning to unload items by hand must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing.
- The administrative office at the Central County Landfill will be closed Dec. 22-25 and on Jan. 1.
Transit schedule
- Friday, Dec. 22 — All Breeze services will operate with regular hours.
- Saturday, Dec. 23 —All Breeze services will operate with regular hours.
- Sunday, Dec. 24 —Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets will be closed. Standard routes and Breeze Plus will operate with regular hours. Breeze Siesta Key and Breeze OnDemand will operate with the modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Monday, Dec. 25 —Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets will be closed. Standard routes and Breeze Plus will not be provided. Breeze Siesta Key and Breeze OnDemand will operate with regular hours.
- Sunday, Dec. 31 —Standard routes and Breeze Plus will operate with regular hours. Breeze Siesta Key and Breeze OnDemand will extend operations until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
- Monday, Jan. 1, 2024 — Breeze Transit administrative offices and ticket outlets will be closed. Standard routes and Breeze Plus will not operate. Breeze Siesta Key and Breeze OnDemand will operate with the modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
