Sarasota County supervisor of elections to lead statewide elections association as of May 24

Ron Turner sworn in as president of Florida Supervisor of Elections

On May 24, Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner was sworn in as president of the Florida Supervisors of Elections (FSE), his staff announced.

FSE represents all 67 supervisors of elections in Florida, “who collectively serve more than 14 million registered voters,” a news release points out.

“In his role as president, Turner will support FSE’s mission to conduct fair, honest and accurate elections in Florida and continue the important work of past FSE presidents,” the release adds.

“A native Floridian, Turner has the distinction of being the only person to serve as supervisor of elections in two counties in the state,” the release points out. He served as supervisor of elections in DeSoto County before moving to Sarasota County in 2001, it notes. While serving as chief of staff for the Sarasota County elections office, the release adds, Turner was elected in 2016 to his current position as a constitutional officer in Sarasota County.

“It is an honor to be chosen by the nation’s premier elections administrators to serve as president,” Turner said in the release. “My goal as president is to work alongside all Florida supervisors of elections to ensure our state continues to be the gold standard for elections in our country.”

“Turner points to a busy 2024 election cycle as a prime motivator for his time as FSE president,” the release continues. “With the Presidential Preference Primary in March, the Primary Election in August and General Election in November, each supervisor of elections is facing a tough test,” Turner said in the release. “It’s a big job, but I’m confident in my fellow election professionals. I believe we will pass the test with flying colors.”

“Per FSE bylaws, Turner’s term begins Monday, May 29. He will hold the office of president until May 2024, the release notes.

“FSE was founded in 1964 with the goal of conducting elections with transparency and integrity that are accessible to all voters,” the release explains.
